The Site of One of America’s Deadliest School Shootings Will Be Demolished, According to Mayor

Teachers and students will not have to return to the building where 19 children and two adults were murdered by a mass shooter.

Yesterday, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin announced that Robb Elementary, the site of a mass shooting that killed 19 children and two adults, would be demolished.

“My understanding – and I had this discussion with the superintendent – is that school will be demolished. You can never ask a child to go back, or teacher to go back, in that school ever.”

No specific plans or timeline for the rebuilding of Robb Elementary School have been released by officials

Last month, US President Joe Biden said that the federal government could provide financial assistance to the city for the construction of a new school to serve its nearly 600 students.

The Uvalde school massacre is the third deadliest school shooting in America after the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007 and the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012.

Robb Elementary will not be the first school to be demolished after a mass shooting.

Sadly, Robb Elementary will follow in the footsteps of Sandy Hook Elementary, which was demolished and rebuilt in 2013, after a gunman killed 20 young students and six adults.
